Vintage Momotaro jeans in great condition. Made in Okayama, Japan.
Momotaro puts its mark on the right back pocket. The house design is GTB — Going to Battle — the two brushed stripes taken from the banner Momotaro carried on his march to Demon Island. This pair has those two lines, but painted green and filled with a repeating family crest: shutsujin kamon, one of the designs the Momotaro shops paint to order, one pocket at a time. Green is not in the standard set — white, pink, red, gold and pink pearl — it is one of the colours a shop keeps to itself, so this pocket was ordered over the counter in Japan.
The leather patch dates the pair: it carries the old peach mark, JAPAN BLUE, and the maker’s name in kanji — Yugen-gaisha Rampuya, the company that ran Momotaro from 2006 until it merged with Collect in 2014 to become Japan Blue Co. The lot tag is long gone, so this pair is listed for what it is rather than by a number.
Condition: used and evenly faded, with good vertical fading. No repairs, no holes.

MOMOTARO JEANS is made in Kojima, Okayama, by the people who weave its cloth. Collect started there in 1992 as a denim wholesaler and put five old shuttle looms back to work the year after; Rampuya followed in 1996, and in 2006 the two named their own jeans after Momotaro, the peach-born boy Okayama claims as its own. They merged into Japan Blue Co. in 2014, and still dye, weave and sew in Kojima.
