Denim was born in America, but it truly grew up and reached its pinnacle in Japan. While Japanese denim is world-renowned for its uncompromising quality and craftsmanship, many incredible local brands remain hidden from the global stage.
MTKN was founded in Amsterdam by two brothers to bridge this gap. As a certified Jeans Sommelier, our mission is to spread the authentic appeal of Japanese denim to the world.

The First-Ever “Jeans Sommelier Award” Grand Prix Winner
Motoki is a leading authority on Japanese denim. Inspired by his older brother Satoshi, his journey led him to achieve the Jeans Sommelier qualification in 2013. His dedication culminated in 2020, when he was crowned the first-ever Grand Prix winner at the 1st Jeans Sommelier Award in Japan.
Through his YouTube channel, “MTK channel”, he educates future denim professionals, ensuring that every item at MTKN is selected with an expert, uncompromising eye.

Satoshi
The Origin of the Passion & Amsterdam Specialist
Satoshi’s obsession with denim began in 1992. It was his deep dive into the world of selvedge and indigo that eventually influenced his younger brother, Motoki, to follow the same path.
Having lived in Amsterdam for over 10 years, Satoshi bridges the gap between Japanese denim culture and the European community, providing the foundation for MTKN’s local presence.
