In the heart of Kojima, Okayama—the holy land of Japanese denim—exists a brand that defies the modern logic of mass production. Naturals. is an authentic denim brand driven by the timeless design of jeans that has remained essentially unchanged for nearly a century. Rather than producing for the masses, they focus on creating individual pieces, meticulously tailored for each person.

Curator’s Perspective

As a Five-star Jeans Sommelier, I have encountered countless pairs of high-quality Japanese denim. However, Naturals. stands apart. What attracted me was their unwavering commitment to “single-artisan construction.” Every step, from cutting to the final stitch, is handled by one craftsman using specialized vintage machines.

This isn’t just about making clothes; it’s about preserving a disappearing art form. I personally visited their workshop and commissioned Serial No. 074 to showcase the true potential of raw, handcrafted denim.

The 1945 Concept

The inspiration behind their flagship models is the “War Model” (S501XX) produced during the material restrictions of 1942–1945. Naturals. weaves a unique narrative into their denim:

“In 1945, an unnamed poet left the Levi’s factory after the war to find his own path. He created his own original denim—raw and honest—to sell locally as he traveled West.”

This concept captures the ruggedness of the wartime era while moving toward the refined 1947 model. The use of 13.5oz uneven slub selvedge denim, reproduced from 1950s archives, ensures a vintage aging process that is second to none.
