First Wash Guide
Your first wash is more than just cleaning—it’s the “ritual” that sets the foundation for your denim’s evolution. Here is our expert-recommended method to start your journey with raw jeans.

Preparation & Temperature
Begin by removing all paper flashers and guarantee tags. Then, fill a bathtub or large basin with hot water (50–60℃). This specific temperature is the key to activating shrinkage and removing excess starch from the loom-state fabric.

The Ritual Soak
Turn your jeans inside out before submerging them. This simple step protects the indigo surface from abrasion and ensures that the selvedge lines open and settle correctly. Keep them fully submerged for approximately 60 minutes.

Setting the Fit
For those seeking the softest feel and maximum shrinkage, a tumble dryer is recommended. However, if you prefer to maintain the crisp “raw” feel and minimize length loss, simply hang dry them indoors away from direct sunlight.
Other Options
If the “soaking ritual” isn’t for you, there are other ways to handle your first wash:
- Washing Machine: Use a gentle cycle with no detergent. Always wash jeans alone to prevent indigo transfer.
- Air Drying: Skipping the dryer will keep the denim stiffer, which some enthusiasts prefer for sharper crease lines.
