Vintage Sugar Cane jeans in great condition.
Lot. M41200 (1998). Made in Japan.
Announced in the spring of 1998 as Sugar Cane’s second original jean, a year after the M41119. From its launch in 1975 the brand had built its name on faithful replicas of American denim woven between the 1900s and the 1950s; these two models are where it began designing its own instead. Sugar Cane’s own words for the M41200: rather than looks, built to be worn as daily work wear. It was made in limited quantity. The cloth is a 14oz special indigo denim dyed a deeper blue than the reddish-tinted warp of a vintage reproduction, and woven on a power loom with the tension deliberately altered — which is what gives it its rough hand. It was sold shrink-to-fit, on unsanforized cloth. There is no arcuate stitching and no tab — this is Sugar Cane speaking in its own vocabulary rather than copying someone else’s.
