The 1947 model is an iconic pair of jeans from Sugar Cane, representing the rich detail found in vintage denim from the late 1940s. From spinning and dyeing to weaving and sewing, each step of the production process is based on a vintage reference and carried out with utmost care, earning it the name “Standard Denim.” The silhouette is a regular straight fit.
STANDARD DENIM
Sugar Cane has meticulously studied the processes involved in reproducing vintage denim—spinning, weaving, dyeing, and stitching. Button Fly Front
While most modern clothing uses zippers, button fly was the standard in 1947. This model uses unsanforized fabric, meaning it will shrink after washing—making zippers less practical. True to vintage construction, iron buttons with original engravings are used.
Coin Pocket
The edge of the coin pocket features selvedge detailing, reinforced with punched copper rivets. As seen in aging samples, these high-quality fabrics and components age beautifully without any forced distressing—fading naturally with wear and oxidation of the rivets.
Waistband, Belt Loops, and Leather Patch
When stitching the top of the waistband, both the belt loops and deerskin leather patch are sewn in together. Unlike other models where the center belt loop may be offset, the 1947 model keeps it centered. In line with vintage standards from an era without unified specifications, various cotton threads of different thicknesses and colors are used throughout the garment for accurate reproduction.
Hip Pocket Stitching
Both hip pockets are sewn using a single continuous stitch starting from the top right edge, looping to the left, then turning inward to finish back at the start. Gray hidden bar tacks peek slightly for added reinforcement.
Concealed Rivets
To prevent damage to horse saddles, cars, and furniture, concealed rivets have been used since 1937. These rivets are visible from the inside only, preserving the clean outer look.
Pocket Bag Selvedge and Crotch Reinforcement
The bottom seam edge of the front pocket bags features selvedge. Thick cotton thread is used in the stress-prone crotch area. Bar tacks are added at heavy fabric junctions for reinforcement.
Pocket Bag and Hem Details
The inside of the pocket bag is finished with curved stitching at the corners. The outer seam edge of the hem features selvedge, while the inside hem is sewn with a chain stitch.
