DENIM CELLAR

Denim Cellar is a select shop for Japanese-made jeans in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo, and DUDE BUNCH is its original brand. It was born from the endless denim curiosity of Kenji Kurihara — the owner of Denim Cellar and a renowned Five-Star Jeans Sommelier.

The Story

DUDE BUNCH began with a deep exploration of denim as a material. Learning from Japan’s world-class jeans culture, it re-examines the very essence of weaving, dyeing, and sewing, turning intellectual curiosity into tangible products. As you wear and age each piece, the “answer” to its theme of exploration gradually reveals itself — these are experiential denim pieces.

As the owner of Denim Cellar, Kurihara has spent years curating and preserving Japan’s finest denim. With jeans from Okayama — Japan’s largest denim-producing region — alongside other exceptional Japanese-made pieces, the store is truly a “cellar” of outstanding Japanese denim. His way of selecting denim and knowing it deeply is the foundation of DUDE BUNCH’s craftsmanship.

Signature Craftsmanship & Production

DUDE BUNCH meticulously studies era-defining vintage — Levi’s WWII models, the 501XX 1947 type, the Lee 101 type and more — and rebuilds them into pieces rooted in modern life.
• High-quality Japanese selvedge denim chosen with durability and aging in mind.
• Period-correct specifications and details, including right-hand and left-hand twill weaves.
• Sewn in collaboration with highly skilled Japanese artisans.
• Limited production, made slowly and with intention.

Influence & Cultural Impact

Through his YouTube channel “Denim Academy,” Kurihara shares how to date vintage jeans, how to read their details, and the history and culture of denim. His insights have deepened the understanding of Japanese denim culture both in Japan and abroad. “The more you know, the more you wear, the deeper it becomes.” DUDE BUNCH exists for every grown-up who pursues the essence of denim.
