AUBERGE’s PHIL MENPU Black takes inspiration from the iconic 1947 501, then carefully reinterprets it for today. Designed by Manabu Kobayashi, it isn’t a simple replica—it’s a thoughtful reconstruction shaped by decades of experience in sewing and garment making.
Key details include the switch from button fly to a vintage TALON 42 zipper, hidden back pocket rivets, and a waistband finished with both single and chain stitching. The deep black selvedge denim is woven in Japan, combining heritage construction with unexpected comfort.
About the Designer
Manabu Kobayashi (b.1966, Shonan, Japan) studied apparel design at Bunka Fashion College and immersed himself in vintage and modern fashion in France. After hands-on experience at an Okayama denim factory, he founded Slowgun & Co. in 1998 and later launched AUBERGE in 2018. His work is defined by meticulous research into vintage clothing, reinterpreted through modern pattern-making and fabric development.
