Description
WHAT IS THE TIGER STITCH?
The standard S47 uses a single yellow cotton thread throughout — including the waistband. The S47TS takes it one step further.
The waistband is sewn with alternating yellow and black cotton thread. Viewed from the inside, the two colours create a distinct tiger-stripe pattern — hence the name Tiger Stitch (TS).
This exact detail has been documented on a handful of original wartime S501XX jeans. Yamaguchi-san studied these pieces and deliberately reproduced it on the S47TS. It is not a decorative choice — it is a faithful reconstruction of one of the rarest individual variations found in vintage denim history.
BREAKING IN YOUR S47TS
Raw denim is stiff out of the box — that’s intentional. The 14.5oz selvedge will soften and mould to your body over the first few months of wear.
Don’t be afraid to wash them. Yamaguchi-san himself recommends regular washing — it preserves the fabric and actually helps the denim last longer. The denim is dyed with 50% natural indigo + 50% pure indigo (synthetic), giving it a depth of colour and a fade character that synthetic-only denim cannot replicate.
S47TS AGING SAMPLE
Note: The fade sample images below are from the S47. The S47TS uses the same denim fabric and will age identically.
The S47TS model features a rugged, vintage-inspired fade. Over time, the heavy-duty denim develops deep, contrasted whiskers and a beautiful grainy texture unique to this world-war era reproduction.
