Description

This special edition EIJI T-shirt was created in collaboration with Kirisen, a fourth-generation dye studio based in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture.

“A T-shirt with the beauty of a blooming flower” — this piece is designed to bring joy and comfort every time you wear it. The traditional dyeing technique known as Kagosome (basket dyeing) is used to reimagine a camouflage pattern, blending traditional Japanese craftsmanship with modern street style.

About Kirisen:
Founded in 1933, Kirisen is based in Kiryu, Gunma — a historic textile town once called “The Nishijin of the East” for its centuries-old weaving traditions. Today, only two dye studios in Kiryu continue the Kagosome craft, with Kirisen being one of them.

What is Kagosome?
This technique involves hand-gathering fabric into a basket and dyeing it piece by piece. Each finished pattern is unique, with a beautiful bloom-like appearance. It takes advanced skill to dye the fabric in a well-balanced and harmonious way.

Fabric & Fit:
The shirt is made from 100% Ultimate Pima — one of the highest-grade organic cottons in the world. The shirt itself is an EIJI original, carefully designed for comfort and then hand-dyed by Kirisen using their signature technique.

Camouflage Color Concept:
The base khaki is accented with cool blue-greens representing vines and grass, while pops of orange echo the colors of autumn leaves, soil, and tree bark. The result is a gentle, artistic take on camo — made possible by the expressive nature of Kagosome dyeing.

Care Instructions:
Machine washable using a mild detergent (delicates-friendly). Best practice is handwashing, but it can also be washed in a net bag on a gentle/delicate cycle.
Avoid bleach or enzyme-based detergents.
Dry inside-out in the shade. After a few washes, it can be laundered with other clothes.
